hello Antioch found me on Facebook
00:01
friends Dargis here one of the pastors
00:05
at Antioch Community Church northeast Minneapolis
00:07
I have a question for all of us today what
00:10
is the motivation behind the choices
00:12
that we make is it the fear of God or
00:15
the fear of man I had to ask myself that
00:18
question this week as I did not follow
00:20
through with a choice I felt like God
00:23
wanted me to in the book of Samuel we
00:27
find the story of a person named Saul
00:30
now Saul story is a unique story because
00:34
he was actually placed as the first
00:36
human king of the people of Israel now
00:39
that is unique because the people of
00:41
Israel knew no other King but the Most
00:44
High King God but looking at the people
00:46
around them they wanted to have a
00:50
physical King like the other nations and
00:53
in the words of a wise dungeon master
00:56
that I know of that he says two
00:59
characters who make foolish choices do
01:02
you may not be the wisest choice but do
01:05
you so God appoints all in this position
01:09
as the first human king of Israel now
01:13
something unique about this position was
01:16
it came with a lot of blessings from God
01:19
but it also came with a lot of
01:21
responsibilities to God and Saul had the
01:26
habit of not fully trusting in God’s
01:29
plan or disobeying a disobeying a
01:34
command from God what God would tell him
01:36
to completely destroy his enemy don’t
01:39
hold on to anything whether it be riches
01:41
or cattle just trust me to provide that
01:44
stuff to you completely destroy
01:45
everything Saul would never completely
01:48
destroy things
01:49
he would never fully trust in God’s plan
01:51
and that had times to backfire on him
01:54
and and the most of the times that it
01:57
backfired well he would be confronted by
01:59
the prophet of God Samuel and Samuel
02:02
would just keep telling like do like you
02:03
need to obey God finally he was given
02:07
another opportunity and he disobeyed God
02:10
again and Samuel came to
02:13
saying hey saw like what’s going on dude
02:16
and he says a whole bunch of excuses but
02:19
he realizes that he’s running out of
02:21
excuses and he finally acknowledges his
02:24
sin before God and he says the real
02:27
motivation behind what I did was I
02:29
feared the people and what they were
02:31
what they would have thought if I
02:33
completely destroyed everything like
02:36
Saul we have been given a precious
02:38
position as the children of the Most
02:41
High God yet how many times have we
02:43
disobeyed God like Saul we disobeyed a
02:48
direct order from our King when God has
02:51
told us to don’t hold on to things
02:54
completely give these things over to me
02:57
whether it be fear addiction of any kind
03:00
control or even disbelief in God’s plan
03:04
yet he continually give us opportunities
03:07
he’s even giving us the blueprint to be
03:10
obedient to him which is the Word of God
03:12
His Word reveals to us the path of
03:17
disobedience and the path of obedience
03:19
it reveals to us the results of choosing
03:22
life or death and it reveals to us the
03:25
results of fearing God and fearing man
03:28
proverbs 9 and 10 tells us the fear of
03:34
the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and
03:36
the knowledge of the Holy One is in
03:39
sight so the fear or reverence of God
03:42
enables us to make wise choices Saul
03:46
chose to fear others and in doing so he
03:50
made the unwise choice to disobey God I
03:53
encourage you to not make the same
03:56
mistakes instead believe what God has
04:00
said of you and the promises he has made
04:03
to you in his word and choose obedience
04:06
god bless
